Global Marketing Management Update

23 June 2021

Welcome to the June edition of TrinityP3’s e-news

Since 2006, we have been sharing our experiences, observations, insights and ideas on the TrinityP3 website, with a blog that has more than 2000 posts to date. The most [popular of these posts each year made it into a book called the “Top 50 Marketing Management Posts of the Year” from 2013 through to 2018.

In 2015, inspired by our friend and colleague, Shawn Callahan, founder of Anecdote, we started recording a podcast, titled Managing Marketing. Unlike the posts, this was an opportunity to have conversations with those thought-leaders and practitioners in media, marketing and advertising. The Managing Marketing podcast has more than 200 episodes and hundreds and thousands of downloads and represents a catalogue of some of the most interesting and candid conversations in the industry.

It seemed only natural that in 2000, prior to the pandemic, that we capture these conversations and publish them in a book titled “Conversations in Managing Marketing”. This year, we have followed up with a second book, this time focusing on media and predictably titled “Conversations in Managing Media”.

We hope you enjoy the conversations we have had, and look forward to sharing more of these in the future.

Conversations in Managing Marketing

At TrinityP3 we are inspired by the power of marketing to change cultures, change behaviours, change perceptions – to change the world. But too often, the potential of marketing goes unrealised due to confused objectives, a shortage of resources, and a thousand other obstacles.

Back in mid-2015, when I was considering starting a podcast, I decided the topic was to be how to manage the marketing process to achieve the full potential that marketing delivers. The idea was to have the kinds of conversations that we rarely get the time to have, about the possibilities offered by marketing, and the many challenges facing marketing, media and advertising today.

The popularity of the Managing Marketing podcast, which you can follow on SoundCloud or iTunes, is testament to the quality of the conversations we are having. Rather than a session being treated as an interview, based on a series of questions, the discussion starts and then flows around topics of interest to the guest.

In January 2020 we launched the first book of those conversations to acknowledge TrinityP3’s 20th year in business and to celebrate those marketers and advertising professionals who contribute to making marketing great.

NEW: Conversations in Managing Media

At TrinityP3 over the past two decades, we have witnessed the major changes and challenges that have presented themselves to the media industry. Technology and the digitisation of media have led to a significant increase in channels and media options. At the same time, advertising budgets have faced significant downward pressures, and in many cases, they have been reduced in real terms.

So, in mid-2015, when I was considering starting the Managing Marketing podcast, it was natural – in fact, it was essential – for media to play a significant role in the discussions. The idea was to have the kinds of conversations that we rarely get the time to have, about the possibilities offered by smart media strategy, and the many challenges facing media owners, advertisers and their agencies today.

The popularity of the Managing Marketing podcast, which you can follow on SoundCloud[PS1] [DW2] [DW3] [DW4] [DW5] or iTunes, is testament to the quality of the conversations we are having. Rather than a session being treated as an interview, based on a series of questions, the discussion starts and then flows around topics of interest to the guest.

This is the second book of those conversation to acknowledge and to celebrate those marketers and advertising professionals who contribute to making media great.

Now 200 reasons to listen and subscribe to the Managing Marketing podcast

In mid 2015 I was considering starting a podcast where I would basically sit-down face to face with people in media, marketing and advertising that I found interesting and have a chat about what they were doing, working on or thinking.

I had been asked previously to be on a few podcasts which were recorded over Skype or some other internet comms platform and I never really felt it was a conversation as you could never really interact or engage with the other party, so I thought I would prefer to record these face-to-face.

Since recording my first Managing Marketing podcast with friend and colleague, Shawn Callahan, founder of Anecdote back in mid-2015, I have recorded more than 200 episodes around the world, including London, New York, Boca Raton, Singapore, Sydney, Melbourne, Zurich and more. Each one is between 30 and 45 minutes and is literally a conversation rather than an interview.

You can read the story behind each of the first 100 here .
