Who should take responsibility for the climate destroying GHG emissions in advertising?
Net-Zero by 2030? Or 2040? Or 2050? Will the earth temperature rise by 1.5 degrees Celsius or 2? And what has this got to do with advertising? The fact is all human activity contributes to greenhouse gas emissions and impacts on the climate crisis. This includes advertising. From the production of advertising through to the media channels that distribute the advertising messages. So, who should take responsibility for these GHG emissions? Some in the industry lay the responsibility with the advertisers. After all, it is their money that pays for it. Other say the agencies have an important role to play in making more sustainable decisions to achieve Net-Zero emissions. Of course, some hold that we are all responsible and that ultimately the consumer will end up paying the cost of carbon pollution. Or there are the deniers and delayers who say that advertising is not the place to be
